Alex Zwerdling joined the University of California, Berkeley, English Department in 1961. He taught twentieth-century English and American literature until his retirement in 2002. His research and publication focused on a range of writers including William Butler Yeats, George Orwell, and Virginia Woolf. Zwerdling passed away in 2017 at the age of 84.
